Becoming a Christian
We are all sinners and separated from God because of our sins. That is why the world is as it is; and why we are as we are. The Bible says, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way…” (Isaiah 53:6)
Because of our sins we deserve to be judged by God: “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement…” (Hebrews 9:27)
We cannot save ourselves or earn our salvation and it is untrue to say that God will accept us if we are good. We are sinful by nature and can never be good enough to stand before a holy God. But what we can’t do, the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us - for no other reason than His love for us. Jesus, perfect man and perfect God, lived a perfect life for us and then chose to die for us, taking our place and accepting the punishment that we deserved.
“But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit…” (1 Peter3:18)
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
If Jesus has done everything then what must you do to be saved? The Philippian gaoler asked the same question. Listen to the answer.
“…Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved…” (Philippians 16:30, 31)
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God; to those who believe in His name…” (John 1:12)
If you wish to become a Christian, please consider attending a Bible-teaching church where you will hear the Gospel explained. At DEC we regularly run a ‘Christianity Explored’ course for those wanting to find out more about the Christian faith.
